Creating a website can be a daunting prospect. From picking a domain name, to which software programs to use, you may have a lot of questions that need answering. To help with this, PF Web Designs has created a 'Frequently Asked Questions' section.

How long does it take to build my website?
That depends largely on the type and size of website you choose. A simple 1 page website can be created in a matter of days, whilst a more complex site with lots of features can take several weeks.
What information do you need from me?
PF Web Designs will work with you to understand your business / product / service, to create a website that reflects you. With this in mind, it's really helpful if you have an idea of the style, colours, images that you might like to use for your website. Similarly, if you already have wording that would be useful - such as your background, history or qualifications, we can use this to create the wording for your website. But don't worry - if you are starting from scratch and have no information at all, we will work together to create your ideal website.
How do I pay for my website?
PF Web Designs will confirm the cost of your website upfront, and will invoice you once your website is completed. We are happy to accept cash, cheques and bank transfers.
Are there any ongoing fees?
All domain names and hosting plans must be renewed annually. PF Web Designs will contact you 1 month before your renewal is due, to confirm the date of the renewal, and the cost, for the upcoming year. You may also want to take out a maintenance plan that covers regular updates to your website. Please discuss this with us when building your website.
Will my website appear on Google?
As part of our service to you, we will optimize your website so that it can be indexed and listed on Google's search results. We will also submit a 'sitemap' to Google, listing all the pages within your website, so that Google finds all the different parts of your site. Whilst there is no gaurantee your website will be listed by Google, or how long it will take, this will give you the best chance appearing in the search results for your important 'keywords'. We are also happy to arrange an ongoing maintenance contract with you, which can include regular SEO checks and updates to help you feature as high as possible in the search results.
What if I want to change my website?
All our websites are built using WordPress, which has a built in page editor that works very similar to a word processor (such as Word or OpenOffice). This means that if you want to take over the running and updating of your website, PF Web Designs will be happy to teach you have to make changes and updates yourself. However, if you would prefer to let PF Web Designs take care of changes and updates to your website, we will happily agree a maintenance plan with you, where we can plan regular updates to meet your needs.
What are Domain Names and how to choose the right one for you
A domain name is like a postal address for your website. It's the part that begins www. and usually ends with .co.uk or .com. Domain names help your web browser know where to go to find the websites you are looking for. As part of our hosting and website packages, we will register your preferred domain name, making sure your domain reflects your business name, product or service. This helps to build brand awareness and will make it easier for people to find your website.
What is a Hosting Account and why do I need one
A hosting account is where your website and emails are stored. Its similar to how files and pictures are stored on the hard drive on your computer, but the server where your hosting account is located is specially deigned to run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so that people can find and access your website all the time. Your hosting account not only stores your website, it also has special software and programs that enable all the features and security your website needs to function properly.
